Organization

It was established as Kayseri University Faculty of Health Sciences with the Presidential Decree published in the Official Gazette dated October 23, 2020 and numbered 31283. Deficiencies have been eliminated to open the Department of Child Development within the Faculty; It is planned to take students in the 2024-2025 academic year.

Objective

The aim of the Department of Child Development is to train professional child developers who are knowledgeable about child policies, know the health and education sector very well, analyze the needs of the society well, have effective communication skills, have leadership qualities, have the goal of continuous development with the awareness of social responsibility, can plan in different units of the health and education sector, use resources efficiently, are competent in their field, and have an international vision. In addition, in line with the needs of the child, they will be able to provide consultancy with child-oriented family-centered practices (families, professionals, institutions, organizations); will be able to create appropriate support and intervention programs that support development for children for children, families and professionals; will be able to perform developmental screening, evaluation and developmental identification of children with special needs and plan and implement support / education programs for children and families; to use technological, scientific methods and techniques that can take into account the principles of professional ethics while fulfilling all these, to adopt the eclectic approach (the principle of taking a variety of teaching methods and adapting them to education to suit the needs of students) aims to train highly equipped and qualified child developers.

Program Profile

The curriculum of the Department of Child Development consists of theoretical, applied and elective courses. In theoretical courses, along with classical education methods, interactive education methods (group work, case study, demonstration, role play, etc.) are used to ensure active participation of the student in the course. Applied courses are carried out in the form of field studies under the supervision of the instructor. It is necessary to graduate from high school and equivalent vocational high schools and be eligible to enroll in the program provided that you get enough points from the EA score type determined by ÖSYM. In addition, a student who has started his education in an equivalent program can apply for a horizontal transfer. The language of education is Turkish. Students who graduate from this department can apply to study in graduate programs. In order to graduate from the Department of Child Development undergraduate program, which has an education period of 4 years / 8 semesters, it is required to be successful in compulsory and elective courses for 8 semesters, to complete compulsory applications, to complete a minimum of 240 ECTS credits, and to have a GPA of 2.25 out of 4.00. Attendance of 70% in theoretical courses and 80% in internship practices is required.

Graduates' fields of study

Graduates of the Department of Child Development can work in various units within the General Directorate of Family and Community Services, General Directorate of Child Services, General Directorate of Disability and Elderly Services under the Ministry of Family, Labor and Social Services; in various units under the General Directorate of Public Hospitals and General Directorate of Public Health under the Ministry of Health; in juvenile courts and educational institutions under the Ministry of Justice; In various units under the General Directorate of Basic Education, Board of Education, General Directorate of Special Education, Guidance and Counseling Services under the Ministry of National Education; in the preparation and execution of child-youth programs and educational programs broadcast in audio and visual media; in children's theaters and children's films; in the preparation of publications such as books, magazines, newspapers for children; in the production of educational toys; UNICEF, ILO and similar voluntary organizations and non-governmental organizations. They work as experts, consultants, founders, administrators, trainers or supervisors in the institutions they work in.

Transition to Higher Degree Programs

Candidates who have successfully completed their undergraduate education can apply to graduate programs in their own fields or related fields, provided that they get a valid grade from the ALES exam and have sufficient foreign language skills.
